Zel Haiti's artisan jewelry program started in 2013 and was formerly called Ila Joi, meaning "Island Rejoicing". In 2015 we added our sewing program and called it Zel Haiti. In 2020 we did away with Ila Joi and combined the artisans in with the seamstresses and called it all Zel Haiti. The goal of this program is to empower Haitian families to remain together.
Skill development, employment and business development address the needs of families suffering from extreme poverty before they are at the point of desperation: driven to give their children to an orphanage for the sake of their survival.
